Unlike most of the Lucky Luke series, which often spoofs individual Western movies, this one is more of a spoof of a crime caper comedy called Hold That Blonde. In that film, Eddie Bracken plays a kleptomaniac who steals without being consciously aware of it.Make that character a stage magician, and he becomes Fingers. This story has plenty of the slapstick comedy that makes Lucky Luke stories delightful, but somehow the story is just a little too full of clichés. The Daltons have slipped a little too far into Three Stooges territory in this one, but also are just a plot device for dragging Fingers into traditional western crimes.

This again mirrors Hold That Blonde, where Eddie Brackens character uses his kleptomania to thwart gangsters by stealing things faster than they can.Even Lucky Lukes horse only gets a couple of good lines in this one.The piece of straw [instead of his usual cigarette] in Lucky Lukes mouth looked like it may have been a late revision, as the straw sometimes stops before it reaches his mouth.

Still, its a nice change.
